Last week, my boyfriend and I decided to take a three day trip to Bodega Bay and Sonoma. I was in the middle of packing my things for the road, when I realized I didn’t know what I was going to wear in the car. What could I wear to be comfortable while sitting in the car for 4 hours and look nice? I don’t know about you, but looking presentable is important to me even when going on a road trip . I didn’t want to look terrible when stopping off at places on the way, or when we would arrive at the hotel. Luckily, its the summertime and it’s easier to get away with outfits that are both fashionable and comfortable. When we think of comfortable, the automatic assumption is sweats, sweatshirts, and t-shirts. But there are more ways to be comfortable and still be cute. Before we hit the road, I decided to wear my olive green Old Navy skirt that’s maybe a couple inches above my knee . It’s fabric is cotton and stretch- it’s comfortable but at the same time looks cute. I accessorized it with my camel colored belt from Urban Outfitters I got awhile back, and a white dolman sleeve top from the Gap . For shoes, I wore my beaded strapped sandals also from Old Navy, .
What to do? Think… Fabric.
I have learned many things from past experience with road trips, traveling on airplanes, in addition to being a college student . The most mind boggling idea- how to be comfortable and fashionable at the same time. In situations like traveling, being a student, or when at the workplace, it’s hard to find something to wear if you wish to look nice and maintain that comfort. I think the biggest factor in comfort is the fabric of the clothing you choose to wear.

For instance, with jeans, you want denim with that soft stretch, otherwise you are left feeling a rough surfaced pair of legs. In this case, you can try a pair of jeggings which are like leggings but in denim form. I bought a few pairs of them from the Gap when they were the new trend not too long ago. They can easily be transformed from casual wear to the “going out” look . Because of the soft stretch, you are able to move and sit in one place for a time being and still be cute with comfort. As for the rest? When you want comfort, I think it’s obvious to go for shirts, dresses, or skirts constructed in cotton fabrics. Many other tops we would consider “fashionable” or “dressy” are made of other fabrics such as satin, silk, or sheer types of material. But there are a lot of affordable cute tops that are comfortable, affordable, and look nice despite their simple cotton fabric .
Now…What is cute?
Now, that we have what is “comfortable” covered, we can ask ourselves- what makes a comfortable outfit cute? My suggestion would be to try accessorizing your outfit with some dainty or funky jewelry, whatever your style may be. As a woman, you can never go wrong with jewelry no matter what circumstance . It isn’t necessary to have heavy or flashy pieces to make an outfit “fashionable.” I often wear just a few bangles or cuff bracelets and a ring on a regular basis. It always makes me feel cute =)
Then there are the shoes to consider… I must admit, I wouldn’t consider myself a shoe girl. It’s just so hard to find shoes that make me happy. I’m not a flats kind of person. I love sandals, but I guess I’m over flats. Just please don’t get scared of wedges or short heels. Sometimes they really are comfortable. I bought a pair of peep- toed wedges at Marshalls for only $14.99, super cute flower design and everything. And even though they are wedges, they aren’t that high and provide a lot of support . What is the lesson here? Shoes that look cute can actually be comfortable.
