“The fashion industry needs a wake-up call,” according to ethical fashion designers-turned-teachers Bahar Shahpar, of her eponymous label, and Tara St. James of Study NY.

After years working in the fashion industry and learning the destructive impact of the clothing and textile industry on communities, environments and economies, they’re fed up — and they’re doing more than picking up the phone. St. James and Shahpar are opening Guilded, an education consultancy and school for sustainable design, located in downtown New York City.
